LA Kings Training Camp Preview: Aatu Jamsen

With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Aatu Jamsen!

Birthplace: Lahti, Finland

Height: 6’2

Weight: 175 lbs

Position: Right wing/Left wing

Shoots: Left

Draft: 7th round, 190th overall, 2020 NHL Draft

*NOTE: Since August 23rd, my Mom has picked the order of the training camp player previews for the Reign players because I couldn’t figure out what order to do them in. So, I asked for her assistance. Today, she chose Aatu Jamsen!

2025-26 season

Year one to year two was a noticeable change for Aatu Jamsen. Year one meant adjusting to the size, pace, timing, physicality, and smaller ice rink compared to the wider ones he played on in Liiga (Finland). As a result, the adjustment phase was a struggle for Jamsen. He couldn’t match the physicality, and the smaller ice rink took away the time and space he had to make plays.

Year two started slowly, but from the end of December (December 27th to be exact) to March 1st, Jamsen had no problem scoring and looked comfortable on the ice. In 23 games, Jamsen scored 11 goals and had six assists. One spot I was particularly impressed with was when he took the puck down the wing and drove to the net with a defender on him in transition.

We also saw him pay closer attention to detail in the defensive zone, with a stronger commitment to blocking shots. In the end, Jamsen recorded 28 points (16 G, 12 A) in 59 games and added one goal and one assist in four playoff games.

2026-27 outlook

Jamsen signed a one-year, two-way NHL contract with the Kings, but he’ll be joining the Reign for his third professional season in North America. He is waiver-exempt, according to Puckpedia, so he would need to pass waivers. Year three will mark another big year for Jamsen. He had a slightly bigger role last year, but I feel his role as a third-line winger will stay the same. For all the finesse he has in his game, he still needs to add muscle to avoid getting knocked off the puck easily. That is the area we should be watching closely in games this year.
