2021-2022 Season
Jacob Doty completed his third season with the Ontario Reign in 2021-22, picking up a goal and two assists in 41 games. But the offense isn’t why he’s out there. The Denver native was tied for the third most fighting majors in the AHL (9) while racking up 89 total penalty minutes.
The veteran forward has made a career out of dropping the gloves. Since turning pro, Doty has had four seasons of 100 or more penalty minutes and another one with 94. He’s always been quick to stick up for his teammates and last season was no different. That included in the playoffs when he dropped the gloves with Colorado’s Dalton Smith:
2022-23 Outlook
I don’t think it’s any secret that Doty’s presence with the Ontario Reign will be as someone to look out for the young prospects that are in Ontario. The Reign are likely going to be one of the younger teams in the AHL again and it isn’t going to hurt to have someone like Doty on the ice to provide some veteran leadership and toughness.
He may not be someone that the LA Kings are looking at for their NHL roster, but he is someone the organization has tabbed with providing leadership both on and off the ice to their young, highly touted prospects.
