10. Samuel Helenius – 19 y/o – F – 2021 Round 2 #59 overall

Previous ranking: NR

Samuel Helenius makes his debut in the prospect rankings coming in at number ten. While Helenius is no stranger to scoring, it’s his focus on the defensive side of the game that made him a player the Kings felt the need to trade up in the draft to grab.

Standing at 6’6″ and weighing 216 pounds, the two-way centerman has all the skills to be a quality middle-six forward in the NHL. His reach alone allows him to break up an opponent’s scoring chances.

Steven Ellis The Daily Faceoff

“It’ll be interesting to see how Helenius transitions to a full-time role in North America. There’s some offensive skill there, but his bread and butter will be his physical play. Size will be his trademark if he makes it to the NHL, and the AHL is a good proving ground to show what you can do in that regard.”

It’s been a busy last year of hockey for Helenius. After finishing a season in the Finnish pro league Liiga playing for JYP, the second-round pick made his way to North America to get his first taste of the AHL with the Reign. He then completed his 2021-22 hockey season, playing 12 games for Ontario, and registering one goal. But his schedule wouldn’t stop there.
