Alex Laferriere - 2022-23 - Men's Ice Hockey - Harvard University

6. Alex Laferriere – 20 y/o – F – 2020 Round 3 #83 overall

Previous ranking: NR

Coming in at number six in the prospect rankings is another one of my favorites in Alex Laferriere. The 20-year-old right winger excels in all areas of the ice and is equipped with a quality shot as well.

In his first season of collegiate hockey at Harvard last year, Laferriere finished with 14 goals and 17 assists in 35 games, earning himself the ECAC Rookie of the Year and was named to the Third-Team All-ECAC Hockey.

Scott Wheeler, The Athletic

“Laferriere is a good-at-everything winger who is an equal opportunity scorer and passer, sees the ice well, plays the game with detail and intention, and rarely plays outside of himself.”

LA Kings

This past summer’s development camp was my first look at Laferriere live, and he was extremely noticeable. In the scrimmages, Alex constantly found himself matching up against Quinton Byfield and Samuel Fagemo and did not look out of place. He showed a lot of physicality and a tenaciousness for hunting loose pucks and driving the net. All traits the LA Kings have desperately needed in past seasons.

The upcoming collegiate hockey season should be a good one for the LA Kings’ 2020 third-rounder. After a successful rookie season, Laferriere is coming into his second year and is considered one of the league’s best scorers. He was named to the ECAC All-Preseason Team with fellow teammates Matthew Coronato and Henry Thrun.

The top five is coming soon…
