On Monday morning the Ontario Reign announced that they signed goaltending prospect Erik Portillo to an ATO.

Portillo, 22, just finished his junior season at Michigan, posting a record of 25-11-2, a 3.00 GAA, and a .908 save percentage for the 2022-2023 season. He helped lead Michigan to its second straight Big-ten championship and an appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four, where they lost to Quinnipiac in the final four.

Portillo was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2019 but had his rights traded to the LA Kings on March first. As you may recall, our Hockey Royalty colleague, Pavel, was a big advocate for Portillo and wrote why the Kings should acquire him.
Great call Pavel!
The Reign have three games left in the season and we’ll see if the 6’6 netminder gets a start in any of those games.
