For the second straight season, the LA Kings have secured their spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs after their 4-1 win Sunday night.

In addition to clinching a playoff spot, the Kings also clinched a 100-point season. Last year the Kings clinched a playoff spot the day before their 81st game of the season when the Dallas Stars defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in a shootout. This year the Kings took care of their own business by defeating the Vancouver Canucks on the road.

Brock Boeser started the scoring for the Vancouver Canucks in the first period but Alex Iafallo’s two-goal performance and Joonas Korpisalo’s 24 saves led the way for LA. Viktor Arvidsson added two helpers while Arthur Kaliyev and Blake Lizotte also chipped in with a goal and an assist in the third period.

What’s next?

When the Kings clinched their spot in the playoffs last year, they were already locked in the third seed in the Pacific Division. That will not be the case this year. First place in the division is still up for grabs between the Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers, and the LA Kings. Vegas also has a game in hand on both the Kings and Oilers as they have six games remaining.

A huge matchup on Tuesday against the Oilers at home awaits the Kings. After that, they travel to Vegas for another big showdown against the Golden Knights. However, the Kings will need to focus on Tuesday first before they get to Thursday. These final two weeks will be good.
