Helge Grans prepared to use World Junior Championship as launching point for new season - LA Kings Insider

7. Helge Grans – 20 y/o – F – 2020 Round 2 #35 overall

Previous ranking: NR

If there’s one word to associate with Helge Grans, it’s patience. Grans exudes all the talent to be a top-four defenseman in the NHL. But there continue to be a few flaws in his game that require development. Offensively he’s a stud, but the defensive side of his game is still a work in progress.

There’s no doubt Grans has a presence on the ice. He has plenty of raw talent and size to go with it. At 6’3″, he can take over a game with his smooth skating and playmaking ability.

Tony Ferrari The Hockey News

“After a good rookie year in the AHL last year, he will once again man the blueline for the Ontario Reign in what should be a big development year. Grans has the two-way talent that teams covet in their top four, but it was inconsistent last year. His offensive prowess is evident with his mobility along the blueline and in transition, slick passing, and timely pinches, but his defensive game was hit or miss at times.

LA Kings

This should be an interesting season upcoming for Helge Grans. Last year the LA Kings were forced to use a total of 14 different defensemen due to the many injuries they endured. If something like that were to happen again, god forbid, Grans could be in line to make his NHL debut sooner than many expected.

Until then, we’ll have to see if the Ljungby, Sweden native can build off a successful first campaign in the AHL, where he registered 24 points (7g, 17a) in 56 games for the Reign. Ontario will have a stacked defense this season, so I would expect Grans to have another solid year.
