The Reign wrapped up a three-game road trip with a trip to Henderson, but fell behind 2-0 after the first period and never found a way back into the game, resulting in a 4-1 loss.

Here are my takeaways from last night’s loss.:

Slow start again

The Reign have fallen into a pattern of struggling to start on time. For the eighth straight game, the Reign allowed the first goal, and when they trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes, it updated their goal differential to -8 (11-3) in the first period. It’s simply not good enough. Sooner or later, chasing the game will come back to haunt you, and it has for the Reign.

Aatu Jamsen gets on the board against Henderson again

Aatu Jamsen scored his second goal of the season, and both have come against the Silver Knights. Jamsen got the Reign on the board in the second period when he redirected a Joe Hicketts shot by Pavel Moysevich, which became the only Reign tally. Jamsen has gotten off to a slow start this season, but since both of his goals have come against Henderson, perhaps someone on the Reign should tell him they are playing the Silver Knights every game.

Carter George performs well in the loss

Carter George took his first loss of the season but was the Reign’s best player on the ice. George stopped 28 of 31 shots (.903 sv%); he had to be nearly immortal to keep the Reign in the game and give them a chance to win. The first goal from Lukas Cormier in the left dot is probably the only one George would want back, but otherwise, he had a solid night. He is 2-1-0-0 with a 2.31 GAA and .905 sv% through three starts.

NOTES:

*Lukas Cormier scored his first two of the season. He led all Silver Knights defensemen with 47 points last season.

*Silver Knights netminder Pavel Moysevich earned his first AHL win.

*Kenta Isogai recorded an assist in the third straight game.

*15 of the 27 Reign goals have come in the second period.

*The Silver Knights earned their second win against the Reign in 11 games.

*The Reign went 1-2-0-0 on the three-game road trip and have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season.

UP NEXT: The Reign Train returns home to begin a three-game homestand on Friday against the Tucson Roadrunners. It’s game one of a two-game tilt. The game starts at 7 PM PST, and you can watch it on FloSports. If you can’t watch, you can listen on the Ontario Reign Radio Network.
