LA Kings Training Camp Preview: Jared Wright

With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Jared Wright!

*NOTE: Starting this past Sunday (8/23/2026), my Mom picked the order of the training camp player previews for the Reign players because I couldn’t figure out what order to do them in. So, I asked for her assistance. Today, she chose Jared Wright!

2025-26 season

If you didn’t know who Jared Wright was, but watched his first three shifts of a game, you would instantly notice how fast he is. The former sixth-round pick’s blazing speed was his ultimate weapon on the forecheck, open ice, and on the penalty kill.

While his roommate and linemate Kenny Connors caught fans’ attention at the start, Wright had an under-the-radar start to the season for the Ontario Reign. I knew Wright would be a solid bottom-six winger with speed and a player who takes pride in the defensive end of the ice for the Reign, but what I didn’t expect was for him to have a scoring touch. I expected 10-12 goals from the Denver Pioneer product, not 17.

On March 2nd, with the Kings dealing with injuries, Wright earned a call-up to the Kings along with Connors and defenseman Angus Booth. While Booth and Connors’ stint with the Kings was short-lived, Wright stayed with the Kings for the remainder of the team’s playoff push and four-game series with the Colorado Avalanche. After the Kings’ season concluded, Wright was assigned to the Reign and played in all five games of the team’s playoff series against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Wright recorded one assist in the five games.

In 23 regular-season games with the Kings, Wright recorded four assists in 11:26 of average ice time as a fourth-line forward. In 54 games for the Reign, Wright recorded 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points. He finished fourth on the team in goals and led all Reign rookie skaters in that category. He finished second in points on the team for rookie skaters as well.

2026-27 outlook

Wright is almost certainly destined to be assigned to the Reign to start the season. He is waiver-exempt, so he won’t be required to pass waivers to join Ontario. He’ll look to build off the offensive output from his rookie campaign in the same role he had, which is a third-line checking winger with lightning-rod speed who plays valuable minutes on the penalty kill.

Internally, the organization loves Wright and his intangibles. He won’t be an offensive scoring winger, but can contribute on the fourth line by doing all of the little things; that scoring touch of his will need to improve for him to stick at the NHL level. If any of the bottom-six wingers on the Kings go down with an injury, don’t be surprised to see Wright be considered as an option or get called up.
