With training camp just around the corner, we are previewing each player on the LA Kings roster. Up next: Anton Forsberg!
Anton Forsberg
Birthdate: November 27, 1992
Birthplace: Härnösand, Sweden
Height: 6’3
Weight: 200 lbs
Position: Goalie
Catches: Left
Draft: 7th round, 188th overall, 2011 NHL Draft
2025-26 season
Anton Forsberg signed a two-year contract in the summer of 2025 to serve as the backup to Darcy Kuemper. Forsberg struggled at the start of the season but finished the season in good fashion, compiling a 16-12-5 record, 2.57 GAA, a .910 SV%, and three shutouts in 36 games.
After earning the starting job late in the season due to his strong play and helping the Kings squeak into the Western Conference’s final playoff spot, Forsberg started in all four of the Kings’ playoff games. Forsberg posted a 2.78 GAA and a .909 SV% against the Colorado Avalanche, but the Kings proved to be no match for the Presidents’ Trophy winner.
According to Natural Stat Trick, Forsberg led all Kings goalies at 5v5 in SV% (.926), goals saved above average (6.44), high-danger save percentage (.872), and high-danger goals saved above average (2.28)
2026-27 outlook
Like Darcy Kuemper, Forsberg is entering the final year of his contract. I’m hesitant to believe he will replicate last season’s second-half play because we have seen one goalie from the Kings have a solid to great season out of nowhere only to get smacked by regression the following season.
Need examples? Pheonix Copley had a career year in 2022-23, then struggled before suffering season-ending ACL surgery. David Rittich was “Big Save Dave” in 2023-24, then turned into “No Save Dave” in 2024-25. Kuemper was a rock in 2024-25, but fell off in 2025-26.
Goaltenders are voodoo. You never know what you’ll get with most of them. If Forsberg can give average to slightly above-average goaltending, then you’ll take it.

I’m one of the few who believe Anton Forsberg will have a strong season because, in some instances, like I believe in this case, athletes find themselves and it carries over to the next season. Secondly its a contract year so, if he’s not staying with us, he’s putting his play on film for others to see. My actual prediction is, Forsberg will take over from Kuemper again because Darcy will falter again. Has Kuemper played confident hockey since Colorado carried him to a Cup win.
