Two LA Kings prospects set to compete for the Memorial Cup

The season is over for almost all of the LA Kings‘ prospects, but two are set to compete for the CHL’s Memorial Cup later this month.

For those who need a memory refresher on how the Memorial Cup works, here is how it is broken down. Four teams compete in the tournament. The winners of the OHL, WHL, and QMJHL championships qualify for the tournament, while the fourth team is the one whose city hosts the tournament. The tournament starts on May 21st and ends on the 31st; the games start on the 22nd.

Jared Woolley, drafted in the sixth round of the 2024 draft, and Vojtěch Čihař, drafted in the second round of the 2025 draft, are the two Kings prospects who will be competing in the CHL Memorial Cup tournament.

Woolley helped the Kitchener Rangers capture the organization’s first championship since 2008, and won his third straight OHL championship (the previous two were with the London Knights). Woolley has played in a top-four defenseman role upon his arrival in Kitchener at the trade deadline. His offensive numbers took a dip, but that’s not too surprising given he had a bit more offensive responsibility with the roster turnover in London. Woolley will look to capture his second straight Memorial Cup to end his junior career. He is eligible to join the Ontario of the AHL next season.

Čihař played half of the season in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets. After winning MVP of the World Juniors for Team Czechia, Čihař carried over his dominant play and tallied 31 points (12 G, 19 A) in 31 regular-season games with Kelowna. He added 13 more points in nine playoff games before Kelowna was bounced in the second round by the Everett Silvertips in five games. Despite not winning the WHL championship, Kelowna is hosting the Memorial Cup, therefore automatically earning a spot in the tournament. This will be a good experience for Čihař, who could also be eligible to join the Reign since he was a European import in the CHL draft (just like Jakub Dvořák in 2024).
