Here are the three takeaways from Saturday night’s 8-3 victory:
Another sixty-minute effort
While the Reign did give up the first goal less than two minutes in, they rebounded well and took control of the game by scoring three times in the first period and 36 shots in the final 40 minutes. Friday night was a good sixty-minute effort all-around and last night was no different. The only difference was the Reign gave up the first goal and found the back of the net eight times.
The fact the Reign trailed twice in the first period and responded quickly rather than letting the game slip away has to make Marco Sturm happy. It was a weekend sweep for the Reign that saw them outscore the Silver Knights 12-4 and the top guys woke up.
Winning the special teams battle
Sturm has always talked about winning the special teams battle during his time as the bench boss in Ontario. The first five games saw the Reign get destroyed in that department. Last week was the complete opposite as the Reign gave up a short-handed goal against the Coachella Valley Firebirds and allowed three power-play goals to Henderson at home the following game. Last night was a complete 180. The power play looked sharp once again and found the net for the second straight game and went 3-for-8 on the night.
In addition to scoring three power-play goals, Shawn Element scored a short-handed goal in the final minute of the third period on an absolute snipe off a Silver Knights turnover in their own end. When you win the special teams battle your chances of winning become higher.

Lucky 13
It was reigning goals yesterday inside Toyota Arena. Almost everyone got in on the fun last night. 13 different skaters recorded a point for the Reign, and seven of those 13 skaters had multi-point games. Each line scored a goal as the Reign spread the scoring wealth. Samuel Fagemo (2G-1A) and Charles Hudon led the way with three points (1G-2A). New-comers Jack Studnicka scored twice and Glenn Gawdin recorded a goal and an assist. Reilly Walsh, Jeff Malott, and Francesco Pinelli all had two apples.
More importantly, four of the players who had multi-point games are in the top six in the lineup. Perhaps this gets those players rolling going forward.
