LA Kings: Todd McLellan Fired; Jim Hiller Named Interim Head Coach

When the LA Kings return from the all-star break, there will be a new but familiar face behind the bench.

Head coach Todd McLellan was relieved of his coaching duties on Friday morning, just over a day into the all-star break.

The Kings released a statement on the decision.

Assistant coach Jim Hiller was named interim head coach and will be for the remainder of the season. Before the season, McLellan was given a one-year extension, which runs through the 2024-25 season. Rob Blake at his midseason media availability, mentioned how he was going to rely on leadership from the players getting out of this slump, but after losing 14 of the last 17 games, plans changed.

  1. Todd was a playoff underperformer, ya the Oilers are a tough draw.
Sometimes a new leader and it can spark playoff success.
I would acquire another netminder as the top priority.
I would even carry 3 with simiar skill level and rotate with whoever had the hot hand.
tough to get anything on a higher level.
    PLD for Markstrom.

  2. Not sure how this move works unless there are some system tweaks, in game adjustments and Is making the hard decision on who to play and who to sit. My biggest Fear is nothing will change as this seems to be a management decision. If things don’t work out I believe in the summer ownership needs to clean house from Luc all the way down.

  3. Get crazy with the lines.

    Fiala- Byfield – Kempe
    PLD – Kopitar – Arv
    Kaliyev – Danault – Moore
    Grund – Lizzo -Lewis
    Laf sent to Ontario
    JAD

    MA – DD
    Gavri- Roy
    Englund – Spence
    Clarke

Rittich – Talbot – Portillo – /Rotate in, if others fail (Ingram – Satalock)
    Find the hot netminder
