Aidan Dudas is having a career year

Aidan Dudas is in his third full professional season with the Ontario Reign. He may not be a 30-goal scorer player, but he comes to the rink with much energy every day. The games I’ve gone to this season, you can see it before games. Before every home game, most of the players from the Ontario Reign play two-touch. I have had the opportunity to watch the Reign play this game outside the arena at the bottom of a stairwell before several home games.

Even though the soccer ball isn’t in the photo, this is how the game takes place. While observing, Dudas always seems to have energy, joking, and having fun. That has translated to the ice this year. All season Dudas has played on the third line for the Ontario Reign, killed penalties, and has even recently played on the power play.

That goal on the breakaway short-handed by Dudas was his 10th goal of the season. It tied the career-high he set last season. For the season, Dudas has 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points. As I mentioned, he tied his career-high in goals but the assists and points are career-highs. On the team, he ranks 5th in goals, 5th assists, and 4th on the team in points. He is having a breakout year in Ontario and has even worn an “A” this year. While the Kings have a loaded prospect pool and Dudas isn’t a big name, he has played an important role and Marco Sturm has used him in a lot of key situations during games.

Providing energy and producing numbers has proved how valuable Dudas is to the Reign this year and is a good fit for the third line. It’s unclear what the future will be for Dudas with the organization as he is a restricted free agent this offseason. As of right now, he’ll continue to focus on adding to his breakout season and providing energy for the third line every game.
