Ontario Reign: Three stars of the week 1/23 – 1/29

The Ontario Reign played four games last week and ended up going 2-2-0-0, improving their record to 32-16-1-1 on the season.

The Reign started the week off by splitting a two-game series in Calgary. While dropping the first game, Ontario was able to win the second game with an improbable comeback win in overtime as Lias Andersson scored both the tying and winning goal. They would then split their weekend games with a 7-2 road win in San Diego and a 4-1 home loss to Calgary.

Another week has passed which means it’s time for our Ontario Reign three stars of the week segment.

Here are last week’s three stars of the week:

3rd star:

Tyler Madden

Stat line: Four games, two goals, one assist, three points, +/- 0 rating, twelve shots on goal

It was hard to find a third star for the week, but Tyler Madden’s performance against the San Diego Gulls stood out for this past week’s third star of the week honors. In that game, Madden recorded two power-play goals and an assist as he moved up to the first line and played alongside Lias Andersson and TJ Tynan.

Both of Madden’s power-play goals were a result of picking up the garbage off a scramble in front of the net. He now has 19 points in 39 games on the season. His performance against the Gulls earned him the third star of the week.

2nd star:

TJ Tynan

Stat line: Four games, one goal, eight assists, nine points, +4 rating, six shots on goal

The Captain led by example yet again. TJ Tynan, once again, recorded at least one point in every game of the week for the Ontario Reign. In the first game of the week, Tynan recorded a goal and an assist in a Reign 4-3 loss to Calgary and would go on to register two assists the next night in a 3-2 overtime win for the Reign.

In Saturday’s 7-2 win over the Gulls, Tynan recorded four assists which was his second four-assist game in a week’s span. Tynan is currently on a seven-game point streak recording 17 points in those games. His nine-point week gave him 51 points on the season, good enough for second place in the AHL. His strong week earned him the second star of the week.

1st star:

Lias Andersson

Stat line: Four games, six goals, three assists, nine points, +4 rating, fifteen shots on goal

Lias Andersson was on fire last week. Like TJ Tynan, he recorded at least one point in every game. Andersson started the week by recording a late goal to tie the game in a 4-3 Reign loss to Calgary. His hot streak continued the next night scoring both the tying and winning goal in a 3-2 overtime comeback win for the Reign.

Andersson is currently on an eight-game point streak himself, recording 13 points during that span. Let’s see if his hot streak continues this week. His dominant week was no doubt good enough for the first star for the week.
