Takeaways from Tuesday’s loss:

1. Flush this one away

Cal Petersen had played five games with the Ontario Reign prior to last night’s game. It’s safe to say the sixth game wasn’t his best. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back in his next start. Confidence has been the main issue for Petersen along with his play and he will need to show that he can bounce back after a rough performance and not let it affect him into the following start. It’s unknown if Petersen will go tonight. In the past, Marco Sturm usually goes with both goalies on a back-to-back, so Matthew Villalta may get the start between the pipes.

The same can be said for the rest of the team. After the first twenty minutes, it was all Calgary. The good thing for the Reign is they get to go right back at it with Calgary again tonight. A chance for redemption before heading into the holiday break.

2. Physical play

The Wranglers and Reign had their fair share of physical play in the season series last year. It was no different last night. Samuel Helenius registered his third fighting major of the season with Warnaglers’ forward Adam Klapka.

Even the captain, TJ Tynan, threw a big hit of his own that brought everyone together immediately after the hit. There were some hard hits in the middle frame as well. Both teams combined for a total of 20 penalty minutes in the middle frame. Will the bad blood carry over tonight? We will find out.

3. Byfield and Turcotte

There weren’t many highlights for the Ontario Reign last night. Their lone highlight came when the back-to-back first-round picks from 2019 and 2020 teamed up for a goal. Quinton Byfield weaved through the neutral zone, down the middle of the ice, and feed the puck to Alex Turcotte who backhanded the puck by the glove of Wranglers’ netminder Dustin Wolf. It was the only highlight for the Reign on the night.

UP NEXT: These two teams are back at it again tonight. The game starts at 6 PM PT and can be seen on AHLTV.
