2021-2022 Season
Andre Lee got his first taste of professional hockey in North America last season when he suited up for 11 games with the Ontario Reign. The hulking winger joined the Reign after his NCAA season was over with UMass-Lowell. Lee spent three seasons with the River Hawks scoring 30 goals and 63 points in 60 games. This included a 16-goal, 28-point campaign in 2021-22 before he turned pro. While in Ontario, Lee picked up two assists while playing mostly in a fourth-line role.
For a big body, Lee can move once he gets going and has some sneaky hands:
Even at top speed, he’s able to recognize where the pressure is and use his body to shield the puck, yet still make a skilled play for the finish:
2022-23 Outlook
The test now for the 22-year-old Lee will be to see how his game adapts to the AHL. He clearly has the size and has some very good hands, but whether he is able to make an impact at the next level will be determined by his skating.
Corey Pronman of The Athletic recently ranked the LA Kings pipeline 10th in the NHL, with Lee earning an honorable mention. Pronman noted:
Lee is a big forward with good hands and a strong shot, but his skating will need a lot of work to make the NHL.
With some players who have moved on from the Reign and other prospects ahead of him that may be soon to graduate, Lee will have an opportunity to establish his footing in the AHL.
