LA Kings Jared Wright

LA Kings prospect Jared Wright has come up in the news quite recently as it was made official by his USHL team, the Omaha Lancers, that Wright had changed his college commitment and will be heading over to the University of Denver to commence his NCAA career this fall.

Wright, 19, was drafted by the LA Kings in July in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL entry draft.

As an over-age who recently came off his first and only USHL season, Wright was seen as a surprise pick. It was quickly proven that the pick may have been sneaky good as Wright turned some heads at the development camp held only a week following the draft.

Wright was originally committed to Colgate University, where he would begin to play in 2022-23. That would’ve required Jared to play an extra season in the USHL with the Lancers, and it’s not a stretch to say that he would’ve exceeded expectations there. As Wright did want to begin his journey to the NHL quicker while playing in a better school in a better division, joining the University of Denver only made sense.

The speedy, defensively responsible, and capable forward will likely play in the bottom six with the University of Denver and eventually make his way up the lineup as he continues to develop and surprise even more people.

This news works out fantastically for the Kings, the University of Denver, and Wright himself. The Kings will have a better opportunity to watch Wright develop while Wright will join one of the top hockey programs in the entire United States. Wright will be eligible to play with the team for four years, and the Kings will have those four years to sign him to his entry-level contract.

Congratulations to Jared, and we wish him the best of luck as he begins his journey to the National Hockey League.
