No doubt about it, this one has to sting for Ontario. Wins and losses happen throughout the season, of course. But this was the first time they lost a two-goal lead in the third period – and over halfway through the third period at that – to eventually lose the game in overtime.
The Reign weren’t going to catch Stockton in the standings with one regulation win, but it would have brought them to within six points. With three games in hand, the deficit is now nine.
It is particularly deflating in a game where there were so many positives. Between the play of Parik, Byfield on the board again, and Fagemo staying hot makes the loss a little tougher to swallow. All this and scoring four goals on the best defensive team in the league.
The Reign are off until Friday when they wrap up their five-game homestand against Henderson.
