10. Jordan Spence – 20 y/o – D – 2019 Round 4 #95 overall

Previous ranking: NR

No one in the Kings prospect pool has had a better offseason than Jordan Spence. With his quick feet and smooth puck-moving ability Spence is quickly becoming a name mentioned among the LA Kings management.

Finishing his junior career with Val-d’Or in the QMJHL, Spence was nominated for the Emile Bouchard Trophy given to the Q’s top defenseman for the second straight season. His point total of 40 on the season (10g, 30a) was good enough to be second out of all defensemen in the league.

And he hasn’t stopped impressing.

Corey Pronman The Athletic

“The reason why he went in the fourth round is he’s like a 5’9” 5’10” guy, and he’s not an incredible skater. But the reason why he was such a good junior player, why he made Canada’s World Junior team, and why he’s had such an impressive camp is his hockey sense is really, really high-end. He looks like a guy who could play NHL games. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that he is a 200, 300 NHL game guy just yet because I think the path for a fourth-round pick to become that is daunting. And he’ll need to prove it again and again and again. But I would say his trajectory has been promising since he’s been drafted.”

Spence and his excellent shot showed up to development camp, ready to get his professional career going. Throughout the week of practices and scrimmages, he was assertive in all zones on the ice. And that aggressive play carried over a few weeks later into the Arizona Rookie Faceoff.

Playing in all three games of the tournament for LA, Spence displayed confidence, skill, and versatility, expanding his resume within the organization. Using his quick feet, Jordan was featured on the left side of the defense, and he looked comfortable. That adaptability will come in handy when he is ready to make a push for an NHL roster spot.
