2024-25 season

A strong 2024 Calder Cup playoffs with the Reign and training camp four months later with the Kings, Andre Lee made the opening night roster. The former seventh-round pick suited up for 15 NHL games and recorded two assists before going back and forth with the Kings and Reign throughout the year. With the Kings, Lee’s role was on the fourth line; however, with the Reign, he assumed a larger role. He primarily played on the second or third line and was deployed on the power play and penalty kill during his time in the AHL.

Lee playing in NHL games early in the season wasn’t something I thought we would see, but it was a credit to working hard to make the roster, thanks to a strong training camp. The 6’4 forward finished with 20 points (6 G, 14 A) in 48 games with the Reign, but his memorable moment during the season was scoring his first NHL goal in a New Year’s Day matinee matchup against the New Jersey Devils.

While it can be disappointing for players to be sent down after making the NHL roster, Lee never complained and worked on areas in his game that Kings management wanted him to improve.

2025-26 outlook

Lee will return to the organization after signing a two-year extension in March. He is no longer waiver-exempt, and earning that extension means the Kings are more than happy keeping him around. If he doesn’t secure an NHL roster spot as a 13th (or even 14th) forward, he’ll have to clear waivers to be assigned to the Reign to start the year.
