2024-25 season

The 2024-25 campaign got off to a rough start for Kevin Fiala. Although he recorded six points in his first nine games, only one came at 5v5, and the mistakes — particularly the undisciplined penalties — piled up. It got so bad that Jim Hiller eventually benched him for the whole third period in the Kings’ 3-2 win over the Utah Hockey Club (now Mammoth) on October 26th.

The 29-year-old winger would be a healthy scratch the following game after missing a meeting. Through the rough start, Fiala ended the season with 35 goals and 60 points in 81 games, including seven goals in a six-game stretch in April. He also led the team in power-play goals with 14. In six playoff games against the Oilers, Fiala posted seven points as the Kings got knocked out by the Oilers in the first round (again).

Like he always does, Fiala showcased his crafty play with his head-scratching penalties. With the skill he possesses, it’s why we say “Let Kev be Kev” at Hockey Royalty.

2025-26 outlook

The Kings are going to need more production from Fiala this year than last. The 35 goals were his highest during his three years with the Kings, but the 60 points were also his lowest output in that span. I don’t expect Fiala’s role to change at all going into the fourth year of his seven-year contract. He’ll still play a significant role on the first power-play unit, whether the Kings go with five forwards on that unit or not, and be on the wing for either Quinton Byfield or Phillip Danault’s line.
