As Los Angeles struggles to recover from a week marked by disaster, the LA Kings‘ 2-1 overtime victory against the Jets in Winnipeg on Friday night offered a glimmer of hope to fans and the community.
– Kings are locked in
Given the five-day break from their last game, I wondered if we might see some lull in coming into Winnipeg. Nope.
According to Natural Stat Trick, the Kings held the high-flying Jets’ offense to only three high-danger chances during 5-on-5 play their fewest in a home game this season.
– Juice is LA
Adrian Kempe wins the game with a snipe for his 20th of the season, then wins over Kings’ fans’ hearts. Nobody has better cellys than Juice. Shhhh…..

– Two-way Q
Seeing Quinton Byfield‘s defensive game step up playing as a center. If he can become a shutdown option, that’s a big boost for the team.
– Get it together PP
First of all, rough game for Kevin Fiala. I counted at least five times a pass of his connected with a Jets defender’s stick. But the LA Kings are currently 28th in the NHL with a power play efficiency of only 15.5%. That needs to improve.
*15.5% would be their lowest success rate since 2013-14…good sign?
– Top line Turc continues
Feels like whenever the Kings need a big play lately Alex Turcotte is involved. Fun to watch him thrive on the top line alongside Kopitar. He’s worked hard to get to this point and it’s showing.
– Don’t overlook Darcy
Among goaltenders with at least 20 games played, Darcy Kuemper ranks second in both save percentage (.921) and goals against average (2.16). I wonder if Canada wishes they’d selected him for the upcoming 4Nations.
– Carry the momentum into Calgary
Right back at it tonight against the Flames in Calgary. Every point feels crucial in this three-horse race with Vegas and Edmonton atop the Pacific Division.
Starting tomorrow, we will be hosting a Fire Relief Donation Drive at Toyota Sports Performance Center over the next two weeks. ?
All items donated will be delivered to local YMCAs who are on the front lines distributing to those in need.
