Max Martin is a left-handed offensive defenseman who was added to the Ontario Reign on an AHL level Contract. Martin broke out last season with the LA Kings ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. In 66 games last season, Martin had 14 goals and 38 assists for 52 points and was a plus 26. His playoff stats were great as well. In 4 games, he had one goal and three assists. For his efforts, he was named to the ECHL Second All-Star Team. I see Martin making the Regin lineup because he can quarterback a power play unit.

If Brandt Clarke and Jordan Spence make the Kings’ roster, Ontario needs someone to be the Powerplay QB, and Martin fits that perfectly. He’s an excellent passer and utilizes his teammates very efficiently. Martin, only 24, makes this a potential player to get a two-way contract if he performs the way he did last season. This is a low-risk, high-reward signing. This is a player, when given the Proper Ice time, who should be able to get 40-55 points this season.
