Here are the three takeaways from Saturday’s 3-2 shootout win:

Martin Chromiak record his 10th goal

Martin Chromiak’s hot streak continues. After starting the season with three assists in his first 13 games, Chromiak has responded well and now has 17 points (10-7) in his last 16 games. Chromiak now has goals in back-to-back games after recording his 10th goal on the power play.

With the power play expiring, Turcotte made a nice pass through the crease to Chromiak who put the Ontario Reign on the board. It’s possible Chromiak finishes the season with 20 goals.

Sammy to the rescue

After defeating the Bakersfield Condors the previous night in a shootout, the Ontario Reign found themselves playing in another shootout. No team was able to score a goal through the first three rounds which meant a fourth round was needed. Former Ontario Reign forward Sheldon Rempal had his attempt stopped by Matthew Villalta which set the table for Samuel Fagemo to win it for the Reign.

Fagemo took the puck wide to the left, cut back to the middle, and snap a shot by the glove of Jiri Patera to win it for the Reign. It was the second night in a row that Fagemo won the game for the Reign in a shootout. Matthew Villalta stopped all four shots he faced in the shootout and made 37 saves in regulation to earn his 9th win.

Not giving up

When the Ontario Reign score first or are leading after two periods, the chances of them winning are good. However, when they give up the first goal or are trailing after two periods, it’s the opposite. The Reign flipped the script these last two games. Friday night they gave up the first goal of the game and found themselves trailing 2-1 after two periods as they came back to win 3-2 in a shootout. Last night was very similar as the Reign gave up the first goal and trailed 2-1 entering the third period.

While the Reign may not have played their best games this weekend, their ability to come back and win games like these can be a confidence booster for a team that struggles to come back when trailing after two periods. It was the Reign’s fourth come-from-behind win in the past month.

UP NEXT: The Ontario Reign will conclude their three-game road trip Wednesday in San Jose against the Barracuda. The game starts at 7 pm PT and can be seen on AHLTV.
