6. Vancouver Canucks (17-19-3)

Last week: 6

They bookended the week with ugly losses, 6-2 to the New York Islanders and 7-4 to the Winnipeg Jets, but had a 4-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche in between those.

The Canucks desperately need J.T. Miller to get going. After recording just four points in his previous 10 games, he heated up a bit last week, putting up five (2G-3A) in three games.

5. Calgary Flames (19-14-8)

Last week: 5

Three points in three games for the Flames last week. They lost 3-2 in Winnipeg, went home and beat the Islanders 4-1, then went to Chicago on Sunday and lost, 4-3 in overtime. Hard to be satisfied with a point when you’re playing the Blackhawks.

Remember how we spent the whole offseason hearing how Nazem Kadri signing with the Islanders was inevitable, until suddenly he signed with the Flames instead? On Thursday, Kadri made the Isles pay for not sealing the deal.

The Oilers also picked up three points in three games last week and ended up collecting only three points on a four-game homestand. They bounced back from a 5-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken with a 4-2 win over the Islanders, but then on Saturday blew a 2-0 lead to the Avalanche in the third period, losing 3-2 in overtime.

At the midway point of the season, Connor McDavid has 33 goals and 43 assists for 76 points. He leads the NHL in all three categories and is on pace to finish with 66 goals, 86 assists, and 152 points.

3. LA Kings (23-14-6)

Last week: 3

Not a bad week for the LA Kings, who picked up big wins over the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights. Yeah, they lost to the Bruins, but everyone loses to the Bruins.

Kevin Fiala scored his first hat trick with the Kings in Vegas on Saturday, helping LA close the gap on the Golden Knights for the division lead.

2. Seattle Kraken (22-12-4)

Last week: 4

Seattle is moving back up our rankings this week on the strength of a four-game winning streak, including winning the first three games of a seven-game road trip, scoring a total of 18 goals on it so far.

Jared McCann is the Kraken’s all-time leading goal scorer with 46 in 109 games. He’s got a healthy lead on second-place Jordan Eberle, who has 30. He’s also scored a team-leading 19 goals in just 35 games this season and has found the back of the net on all three games of this trip so far. Seattle gets an A+ for this expansion draft pick.
