Three takeaways from Saturday’s 4-3 overtime win:
1. Byfield scores
Another game, another night, Quinton Byfield found the scoresheet. His first-period tally gave the Reign a 1-0 lead. The goal would be Byfield’s 9th on the season as he currently leads the Ontario Reign in that category. It’s unknown when Byfield will be called up, but it has to be soon, right? As of right now, the Kings need a center for the third line, and Adrian Kempe is currently filling that role. They can’t keep Byfield in the AHL forever. Whenever Byfield is called up, he’ll need to translate these results to the NHL level.

2. Controlling the play
It was a role reversal from Friday’s game but ended with the same result. The Ontario Reign controlled most of the play and outshot the Tucson Roadrunners 41-17. Ivan Prosvetov, the Roadrunners’ netminder, was the reason Tucson was able to steal a point in this one. If it wasn’t for him, this game would have been over by the second period as the Reign outshot the Roadrunners 30-13 through two periods. It was probably the Reign’s most complete game of the season.
Matthew Villalta didn’t face as many shots as Prosvetov did but played a good game of his own. He made some key saves when needed. The goaltending for the Reign has been a strength for them this season as they have given them a chance to win almost every night.
3. Different night, same result
It was a different night but the same result as Rasmus Kupari won it for the Ontario Reign in overtime. It was his 5th goal of the season and would be the game-winner. After picking up the puck behind his net, Kupari raced up the ice and snapped a shot by Prosvetov to win the game for the Reign 3-2. The overtime winner by Kupari completed the weekend sweep for the Reign. It was the Reign’s first-weekend sweep on the road this season.
