After Drew Doughty played in his 1,000th career game last season, which LA Kings players will celebrate milestones this year?
With the LA Kings coming off their first playoff appearance since 2018, having played a competitive seven-game series against the Edmonton Oilers despite missing multiple key players, and then adding Kevin Fiala in the offseason, the team enters the 2022-23 season with higher expectations than they’ve had in several years.
In addition to trying to meet the expectations that will be set for them as a team, there are also a number of players with individual milestones within reach this season. These are some of the notable achievements Kings players will be chasing this year.
Alex Edler
He checked off one milestone in his first season in LA by scoring his 100th career goal. But if not for a broken ankle that Alex Edler suffered last December, the Kings could have handed out silver sticks to two different defensemen last year.
Back for a second season in LA after re-signing on a one-year contract, Edler only needs to play 34 more games to reach the 1,000 games played mark this year.
Phillip Danault
It would have been hard for Phillip Danault to have a more impressive debut season with the Kings than he did last year.
The 27 goals he scored more than doubled his previous career high of 13. And he also put the 100 career goals mark within reach for him in 2022-23. Danault enters the new season just 18 tallies away from the century mark.
He also heads into the year 32 assists away from 200, 50 points away from 300, and 29 games away from 500.
Viktor Arvidsson
Another player who had an impressive first season with the LA Kings last year was Viktor Arvidsson. Unfortunately, injuries were also part of the story for the 29-year-old.
He was limited to 66 games in the regular season and has spent the offseason recovering from surgery for a herniated disc that left him unable to suit up for the team’s playoff series against Edmonton.
Arvidsson is expected to be ready to go for the start of the new season, and he needs just 12 points to reach 300 for his career.
He’s also 49 games away from 500.
Adrian Kempe
After scoring a career-best 35 goals and 54 points last season, Adrian Kempe enters the 2022-23 season on the cusp of a few milestones.
He’s just 10 goals away from 100 for his career, four assists away from 100, 14 points away from 200, and 10 games away from 400, all of which he’ll reach pretty easily if he stays healthy.
Anze Kopitar
Just 33 points away from 1,100 on his career, Anze Kopitar should blow past that mark this season, health permitting. There’s also a slight chance that the captain could get to 400 goals this year, but he’d have to match his career high of 35 goals to do it.
Kopitar is also just two points away from tying Dave Taylor for third on the franchise’s all-time scoring list, 87 points away from tying Luc Robitaille for second, and 55 assists away from tying Marcel Dionne for first.
