The LA Kings got the offseason started with the acquisition of Kevin Fiala on Wednesday. Los Angeles sent their 2022 first-round pick in the NHL draft and defensive prospect Brock Faber to the Minnesota Wild.
The Kings then promptly extended Fiala, who was set to become a restricted free agent, to a seven-year contract.
Here were some reactions around Twitter:
WELCOME TO LA, KEVIN!
We've acquired Kevin Fiala from the @mnwild in exchange for D Brock Faber and our 2022 first-round pick.

It makes a ton of sense for the Kings to have interest in Kevin Fiala.
Not only can he score (53 goals in last two seasons), but he plays with a bit of an edge to his game.
He’d slot right into LA’s top six.#GoKingsGo

I feel sorry for Pacific Division d-men that will have to deal with both Kevin Fiala & Adrian Kempe in transition now.
Big time move by the @LAKings

I haven't seen The Kingdom so universally behind a trade in a very long time. It's nice to see!
Welcome @KevinFiala22!#GoKingsGo

Kevin Fiala was my #1 offseason signing this summer, and we actually did it. Holy shit. Locked him up for 7 years (under market value) at $7.85 average.
25 years old, more than a point per game last year.
A GREAT pickup.#GOKINGSGO

I step away from my phone for 30 mins and that’s when #GOKINGSGO finally pull off a trade for a top line LW. Typical.
Welcome Kevin Fiala!! Initial impression is pretty damn happy with this but deeper breakdown coming.

Kevin Fiala, signed 7x$7.9M by LA, is a dynamic offensive winger who loves to carry the puck and is an extremely efficient chance creator and scorer at 5v5. #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/RZcQATOvnW

Welcome to (fia)LA!
The @LAKings have acquired Kevin Fiala from Minnesota in exchange for the rights to Brock Faber and a 2022 first-round selection.

@LAKings GM Rob Blake hit 2 HRs last year with the Phillip Danault signing and Viktor Arvidsson trade. He just hit another acquiring @mnwild Kevin Fiala. Outstanding addition of a 33 and 52 player with a +23 👍

"If you look at his development curve as a stock, I would say it's going in the right direction and you might want to invest in Kevin Fiala," Predators general manager David Poile said. https://t.co/u2ssneOHT1

The Kings just gave up roughly their 8th best prospect and the 19th overall pick in the 2022 draft for Kevin Fiala. That's not that high of a price to pay honestly. Great work by the Kings. https://t.co/cSUNkYgkQM pic.twitter.com/X1IXiUIGmu

#mnwild GM Bill Guerin said #LAKings were serious right away about acquiring Kevin Fiala and he didn't feel the need to wait for the draft to make a deal. "I think we got fair value," Guerin said.

Ladies and gentlemen, the newest addition to your @LAKings, Kevin Fiala.
First impression of the Swiss-born winger? Fun. Lots of fun. #GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/zYxstu3L3Q

Kevin Fiala, Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe on the LA Kings' top line. Yeah, that will be good. https://t.co/Cw0eIIo6Gh

Brock Faber and a 1st for Kevin Fiala, that’s a great job by Billy Guerin, little surprised to see him go to a Western Conference team in the LA Kings, but they are stacked full of prospects, Faber was the best defenseman on the US olympic team, star with the Gophers #mnwild

Kevin Fiala provides quick-strike offense. One of the best in the league over the last two seasons at creating off the rush. Was due the huge uptick in points he got this year. Instantly the Kings best winger. pic.twitter.com/R1bkXDk5Nh

And now Kevin Fiala will have the opportunity to play with Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe. https://t.co/tB0M3AaSab

Kevin Fiala, eh?
I absolutely love this move.
Best of luck in Minnesota to Brock Faber. Love the kid. Just have too many good young defensemen. I’m sure he’ll excel for his hometown team.

Kevin Fiala, 10th in even-strength points this season, could reach a higher gear on #GoKingsGo L1 with Anze Kopitar#FantasyHockey spin on the Fiala trade to @LAKings: https://t.co/EPFWd0g22A

Kevin Fiala (traded to Los Angeles for a first and a prospect) is a powerful creator of 5v5 offence with a very good finishing touch. pic.twitter.com/UTeGSCW7KY
