Three things to watch for in tonight’s matchup:
1. T.J. Tynan on 100-point watch
What a year it has been for T.J. Tynan. It feels like his name gets mentioned at least once a week. Entering Saturday’s matchup, Tynan is two points shy of 100 as he sits at 98 on the season. If he reaches the 100-point mark, he will be the first player for the Ontario Reign to do so since the team relocated from Manchester, New Hampshire in 2015. The last player to reach 100 points in a season for the Manchester Monarchs/Ontario Reign franchise was Michael Cammalleri with 109 in the 2004-2005 season.
In addition to chasing the century mark, Tynan will try to become the leading scorer in the AHL once the season ends. The last player to do that for the Manchester Monarchs/Ontario Reign franchise was Brian O’Neill in the 2014-2015 season, the last season in Manchester before relocating to Ontario. No player has done that since the team has resided in Ontario. Tynan will look to be the first.
Heading into the final game, Tynan trails Chicago’s Andrew Poturalski by just one point.
2. Start on time
While the game doesn’t have any impact on the standings, it is important for the Ontario Reign to get back to their winning formula. A big success to that winning formula was getting off to good starts. Lately, that hasn’t been the case for the Reign. In the three-game series against the Colorado Eagles last week it was the Eagles getting off to great starts. With the playoffs right around the corner, it will be important for the Reign to get back to their identity and set the tone early
3. End the regular season on a high note
Whether you’ve clinched the playoffs or have been eliminated from them, you always want to end the regular season with a win. For the Ontario Reign, this is the 8th meeting against the Henderson Silver Knights. The Reign have won six of the seven previous meetings including the last five against Henderson. Ontario will look to end their season on a high note by winning their 6th straight meeting against the Silver Knights. Also, the Reign will look to win all four of their matchups against Henderson on the road as well. As mentioned earlier, a good start will be key for the Ontario Reign if they want to win the matchup and get ready for the playoffs.
The puck drops at 7:00 PM PT and can be seen on AHLTV.
