The Oilers get a pair of big wins, the Golden Knights are in a free fall, and the injury bug is hitting the LA Kings hard.

8. Seattle Kraken (18-37-6)

Last week: 8

Playoff odds: 0%

A 4-3 shootout win over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday gave the Kraken just their second victory in their last 13 games. The big news for Seattle last week, though, was getting its leading scorer, Jared McCann, signed to a five-year, $25-million contract extension.

7. San Jose Sharks (26-25-7)

Last week: 7

Playoff odds: 2.8%

If nothing else, the Sharks have done at least one thing well this year: Beat the LA Kings. They’ve now won all three meetings between the teams so far after sweeping a home-and-home set last week. They turned a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 overtime win in LA on Thursday before a 5-0 stomping in San Jose on Saturday. Unfortunately for the Sharks, they don’t get to play every game against the Kings, but they do have another one coming up against them this week.

6. Anaheim Ducks (27-25-10)

Last week: 6

Playoff odds: 2.1%

It’s been an awful road trip for the Ducks, who, with each passing day, seem to be further cementing their status as a seller at the trade deadline. With just two games left until the deadline, there may not be time for them to change that. They’ve picked up just a single point in four games on this trip so far, from a 2-1 shootout loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. This year was definitely a step forward for Anaheim, but the playoffs don’t look like they’re going to happen.

Josh Manson is among the Ducks who may be in their final days with the team. He’s helped to boost his trade value with a three-game point streak.

5. Vancouver Canucks (29-24-7)

Last week: 5

Playoff odds: 16.8%

A 5-3 win over the Canadiens to start the week was followed by a 4-3 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals and a 2-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canucks are one of the more fascinating on-the-fence teams heading into next week’s trade deadline. They enter this week only two points back of the Dallas Stars for the second Wild Card in the Western Conference, but the Stars have three games in hand, and they have to pass the Vegas Golden Knights as well.

J.T. Miller continues to be an offensive machine for Vancouver. He picked up seven points in three games last week, extending his point streak to 12 games. He’s ninth in the league with 70 points (24-46-70) in 58 games.

4. Vegas Golden Knights (32-25-4)

Last week: 3

Playoff odds: 55.3%

Jack Eichel’s return to Buffalo last Thursday didn’t go the way he hoped. The two guys he was traded for, Peyton Krebs and Alex Tuch, each scored in a 3-1 Sabres victory, while Eichel was held off the scoresheet and booed all night.

That’s just one part of what’s been a horrible road trip for the Golden Knights. They’ve lost all four games they’ve played so far in regulation. If that’s not enough, Max Pacioretty seems to be hurt again. He left Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins and didn’t play against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.

At least Eichel scored in each of those games.

3. Edmonton Oilers (32-23-4)

Last week: 4

Playoff odds: 82%

Their week started with a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Flames, but they bounced back with a 4-3 OT win over the Capitals and a 4-1 win over the Lightning. That combined with the Golden Knights’ struggles is enough to move the Oilers up a spot this week.

Connor McDavid scored twice in Saturday’s win over Tampa Bay. He’s tied for the league lead in scoring with 83 points (32-51-83) in 58 games, and yet it’s his lowest points-per-game rate (1.41) since 2017-18.

2. LA Kings (33-20-8)

Last week: 2

Playoff odds: 97.1%

LA managed to grind out five points in four games last week. Twice they scored the tying goal with their net empty in the final minute, setting up a 3-2 overtime win over the Boston Bruins last Monday and then a 3-2 shootout win over the Florida Panthers on Sunday.

The bad news — other than the Sharks games — is that the injuries are really starting to pile up. The last week saw Drew Doughty, Mikey Anderson, Andreas Athanasiou, Dustin Brown, Matt Roy, and Tobias Björnfot join Viktor Arvidsson and Brendan Lemieux on what’s becoming a very crowded list of injured Kings.

1. Calgary Flames (36-16-7)

Last week: 1

Playoff odds: 99.9%

A busy week for the Flames wrapped up with a 3-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, but they still went 3-2-0 and maintain a healthy lead atop the Pacific Division, five points up on the Kings with two games in hand.

Even though he’s moved around quite a bit over the last couple of years, Tyler Toffoli seems to fit in well everywhere he goes. He’s up to 13 points (8-5-13) in 14 games since being traded to Calgary.
