The LA Kings prospect earns the honor after having a standout month of January.
LA Kings prospect Alex Laferriere has been named the ECAC Driscoll Skating and Skills Player of the Month for the month of January, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Laferriere is in his first season for the Harvard Crimson. The 20-year-old right-winger scored four goals and recorded five assists in eight games for the month of January. Two of the four goals he scored were on the powerplay. He also posted three multi-point games during the month.
He has played one game in February after his award-winning January – posting one assist and five shots in a 6-3 win against Boston College. Harvard has six regular-season games remaining plus two in the famed “Beanpot” Tournament.
Overall, Laferriere is having an outstanding rookie season for Harvard. In 20 games played overall, he has 11 goals (two of which are game-winners) to go along with nine assists and a +10 rating. Laferriere also has one hat trick and is second overall on the Crimson in shots on goal (67).

The LA Kings drafted Laferriere in the third round (83rd overall) of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Before arriving at Harvard, he played three seasons for the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League.
There, he posted 45 goals and 50 assists in 103 games played. He is a native of Chatham, New Jersey, stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs 180 pounds.
Harvard has an overall record of 11-7-2 and is in third place in the ECAC with an 8-5-2 conference mark. Although they are not ranked in the top-20 of the latest USCHO (United States College Hockey Online) poll, they did receive 23 votes.
