Three things that stood out in today’s win:
1. It is Lukas Parik’s world, we’re just living in it
Lukas Parik was easily the first star of the game today between these two teams, as he was a crucial part of the win.
Parik finished with 39 saves on the game, many of them being big plays. He allowed a fluky goal, but apart from that, he was perfect.

You have to wonder, if he wasn’t part of an organization with such a good goaltending tandem in the NHL, would he have a chance to work his way up eventually? I can’t answer that, but I know that he definitely caught my eye with this performance.
2. Martin Frk keeps making it hard to keep him buried in the minors
If you’re a Kings fan, you’ve probably complained about the usage rate of Martin Frk, and rightfully so. He’s got a world-class shot, smart hockey IQ, and is always looking to push the offense. Today was another example of that.
Frk finished the night with one assist and two shots on goal, but it seemed like he was going to push for at least a couple of goals, as he was firing basically everything in the direction of the net.
His shot is very obviously NHL-caliber. He looked good on the power play but calling him a power play specialist wouldn’t do him justice, as he was very efficient at even-strength as well.

If I had to choose a Reign forward who impressed me most today, it’s Frk.
3. Alex Turcotte struggled to impress
Probably not what you’d hope to hear as a Kings or Ontario Reign fan, but Alex Turcotte wasn’t very apparent on the ice today, and I often found myself checking back at my pre-game notes and lineup just to make sure he was indeed in the lineup.
Turcotte was suiting up on the second line in between Gabriel Vilardi and Samuel Fagemo. While Vilardi scored a filthy snipe and the eventual game-winning goal on the power play and Fagemo was getting involved in the offensive rush, Turcotte was playing some uneventful hockey.
This is just one game, and we know the skill is there, so it’s nothing to stress out about, but it’s definitely disappointing to see the lack of anything he brought to the table.
The Ontario Reign are back in action on Thursday against San Jose.
