3. First ten minutes

It will be critical for the Kings to get off to a good start in this game. They are not a great first-period team, outscored 18-25 in the opening frame, but they’ve been much better in the second and third periods.

Detroit has been outscored 20-31 in the first period, including 8-17 on the road this season. They are a decent second-period team with a +5 goal differential, but they’ve been awful in the final period of games.

All that being said, this is a game the Kings got to have, and the first ten minutes will be vital to set the tone, score a goal, and really put the pressure on the Wings.

As has been well-documented, LA has no shortage of shot volume, and Detroit gives up a lot of shots – 33.8 shots allowed per game, the seventh-most in the NHL – but the Kings have to finish. Pure and simple.

The Kings and Wings will get underway from Crypto.com Arena at 7:30 PM PT.
